S Tier

Terraria: Armor Tier List | 1.4.4 - Item Level Gaming (4)

Cactus: The Cactus Armor is credibly easy to get. The knockback effect you get from the full set bonus (thorns) is very useful against enemies since it also does some damage. This armor can be crafted with a total of 75 cactus.

Jungle: The Jungle Armor give you 17 defense and greatly boosts magic weapons, reducing mana usage by 16%. Each individual piece of the set gives you a whole lot of mana and magic damage increase, which can be really useful if you decide to me a magic user.

Mystic Robe: Wearing the Wizard Hat alongside the robe provides a set bonus of +10% magic critical strike chance, while wearing a Magic Hat alongside it provides a set bonus of +60 Mana.

Obsidian Armor: If you decide to be a summoner, the Obsidian can be an amazing set of armor to get. Once you have equipped a full set, you will earn some amazing stat boosts. Those are +15 defense, +31% minion damage, +1 minion slot, +15% whip speed and +30% whip range.

Individual pieces increase your max number of minions (Longcoat) and increases your minion damage by a whole 8%, up to two pieces (Hat and Pants).

Palladium Armor: With the full set equipped, successful attacks trigger the Rapid Healing buff. This buff will heal you for every 5 seconds. This is not the reason why it is in S Tier, however, it’s because of the individual pieces.

The Breastplate and Leggings greatly enhances your damage, and critical strike chance. For the helmet, there are 3 variants that you can choose from, depending on which playstyle you opt for. You can have increased magic damage and mama, increased melee speed and damage, or increased ranged damage and critical strike chance.

Hallowed armor: This armor is also another set with great flexibility, just like the Palladium Armor. Hallowed armor is a Hardmode armor set. It has melee, ranged, magic, and summoner set versions.

Depending on which sets you choose, you can get different effects: A chance to not consume ammo, reduced mana usage, melee damage and speed. Or max number of minions increase (for summoners) or immune after striking an enemy.

Spectre armor: Magic damage done to enemies heals the player with lowest health. When you use it with the Spectre Mask, magic damage will also damage nearby enemies. The individual pieces greatly increase your magic damage, increases your maximum mana and critical strike chane.

Wizard Hat: This can be a great combination with the Mystic Robe, which is the main reason it is in the A Tier.

Flix Fur Coat: When you equip a full set, it gives the player an additional minion slot, and increases summon damage by 5%. This is an individual piece that has really decent effect if your are playing as a summoner.

Spider Armor: With a full set, the Spider Armor gives +20 defense, 3 minion slots and +28% minion damage. Each piece of the spider armor increases the maximum number of minions by 1 and their damage by 5%. With such great effects, the reason why it’s not in S Tier is because it needs to be combined with other pieces, emblems or accessories to be of its full potential.

Squire Armor: The set bonus increases the velocity of the Ballista sentry summons and increases their penetration from 4 to 7. This set increases your maximum number of sentries, movement speed and melee damage. Overall, they are pretty useful and worth getting.

Valhalla Knight Armor: This set is considered to be an upgrade to the Squire armor, since it gives similar effects. The set can give +20% melee critical strike damage, +60% minion Damage and 3 sentry slots (2 more than the Squire Armor). Moreover, the breastplate is great for summoner classes.

Nebula armor: The Nebula Armor set is a great set for mage weapon users. A full set of the Nebula armor will provide the following benefits:

+60 maximum mana
+26% magic damage
+16% magic critical strike chance
−15% mana usage
+10% movement speed

B Tier

All the pieces in B Tier are placed in this Tier because they offer great stats on their individual pieces. However, the main reason they aren’t in the higher tiers is because of their weaker full set effects compared to other armors.

Forbidden Armor: This is a good armor set to choose from if you do not have the better options as a summoner player. A full set will give you defense, magic and summon damage, an increase in maximium mana and +2 minion capacity.

Spooky Armor: This armor also gives you extra minion damage (25%) as a set bonus, up to 58% with a full set. It also gives you 3, or 4 more minion slots depending on which platform you play the game on.

Vortex Armor: The full set of Vortex gives you the ability to go into stealth mode, increasing your stats and gives amazing benefits. You will have reduced aggro, increased range damage, ranged critical strike chance. However, you will suffer from -33% decreased movement speed. If you are a range weapon user, you can use this quite well.

C Tier

You can use the armor that are put in the C Tier until you achieve a higher level and gain access to better armor sets. You should use these temporarily and should be replaced as soon as you can to maintain your steady progress.
