SCHOOL CLOSURES announced due to Hurricane Francine (2024)

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Some school districts have announced they will cancel classes for students on Wednesday, September 11 due to Hurricane Francine making landfall in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas.

The following schools have made announcements:

ASCENSION PARISH

  • Ascension Public Schools and after-school care will be closed on Wednesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 12. After-school activities will be canceled on Tuesday, September 10.

ASSUMPTION PARISH

  • Assumption Parish Public Schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, September, 10, Wednesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 12.

EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH

  • All East Baton Rouge Parish School System schools will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Zachary Community School District will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Central Community School System will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • The City of Baker School System will close schools on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12. Afterschool activities have been canceled for Tuesday, Sept. 10.
  • St. Joseph’s Academy will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Helix Mentorship Academy and Helix Legal Academy will close at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Helix Aviation Academy will close at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10. All Helix Community Schools will remain closed through Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Louisiana Schools for the Deaf and Visually Impaired will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Dalton Elementary and Lanier Elementary will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Jones Creek Adventist Academy will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • GEO Prep Academy, GEO Mid-City, GEO Prep Baker, GEO Next Generation High School, and administration offices will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12. All afterschool activities will be canceled on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
  • Central Private School will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Trinity Episcopal Day School will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Parkview Baptist School will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Southern University Laboratory School will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12. All after-school activities will be canceled on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
  • Capital Renaissance International School will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • IDEA Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Episcopal School of Baton Rouge will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • The Dunham School will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Inspire Charter Academy will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Jehovah-Jireh Christian Academy and Learning Center will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Christian Academy will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.

EAST FELICIANA PARISH

  • All East Feliciana public schools are closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12. All afterschool activities are canceled for Tuesday, Sept. 10.

IBERVILLE PARISH

  • Iberville Parish Public Schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 12. Schools and offices will dismiss at half day on Tuesday, September 10. For the early dismissal schedule, click here.

LIVINGSTON PARISH

  • All Livingston Parish public schools will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12. Classes will resume on Friday, Sept. 13. Afterschool activities will conclude at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

POINTE COUPEE PARISH

  • All Pointe Coupee Parish public schools and the district office will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12. All after-school activities are canceled on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

ST. HELENA PARISH

  • St. Helena College and Career Academy will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11. On Thursday, Sept. 12, there will be a virtual learning day. Learners will be expected to complete their assignments and participate in Teams meetings from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for direct instruction.

ST. JAMES PARISH

  • St. James Parish Public Schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 12. All after-school activities will be canceled on Tuesday, September 10.

ST. MARY PARISH

  • St. Mary Parish Public Schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, September 10, and Wednesday, September 11.

UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES

  • Louisiana State University will be closed but classes will be held remotely on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12. Students who remain on campus during the storm are being asked to shelter in place from 10 a.m. on Wednesday through 1 p.m. on Thursday. This means that students are being asked not to go outside during those times. If students live on campus, meals will be delivered to residence halls during the shelter in place timeframe. Students can stay in contact with residential life staff for updates.
  • Southern University’s Baton Rouge campuses closed at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and will remain closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12. Normal operations are expected to resume on Friday, Sept. 13. The closure impacts all classes, business operations, and activities at Southern University and A&M College, the Southern University Law Center, and the Southern University AgCenter. Students who reside in on-campus housing are encouraged to shelter in place or go home if it is safe to do so.
  • All Northshore Technical Community College campuses will close at noon on Tuesday, September 10. Campuses will remain closed through Thursday, September 12. All classes are canceled during campus closure.
  • Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) will transition to remote work and virtual classes beginning at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 10. All campuses will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12, and all classes, events, and activities are canceled.
  • Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University will be closed beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and will remain closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11. FranU currently plans to resume remote operations on Thursday, Sept. 12.

WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH

  • West Baton Rouge Parish Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12. After-school activities are canceled on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
  • Holy Family School will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12. After-school activities are canceled on Tuesday, Sept. 10. After-school activities have been canceled on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
