I bought this metal detector over the eBay. They claim it to be set specifically for gold detecting. I got it cheap, direct from China. So far I didn't get a chance to try it in the field for gold detecting, but home made air-trials are so far coming out to be good. Did anyone purchase this model, too? Does anyone have any experience with it in the field? So far, I see very little about this TX850-G2 detector on YouTube. I just got it short time ago. I purchased also one 5" mono coil, and one 15" * 12" DD style extra coils for it, arrived just last week. The 5" is for sensitivity on very fine nuggets, and the 12" * 15" for deep nugget detecting. The machine herself came with 8" * 12" coil.

As I understand it, that machine is a Chinese made clone of the
Teknetics G2, with a clone of a Garrett coil.

I could not find specifications on it..do you have any paperwork
that shows the operating frequency?

Instruction says it is a 19 kHz machine

Same as the Teknetics G2 They upgraded it, and it's now sold as the G2+.

At 19 kHz, it can certainly be good for gold, but, the question is can
it handle the mineralization in the soil?

I suggest watching some gold prospecting YouTube video's for the Teknetics G2,
and that should give you some answers. Keep in mind that your machine is
a copy, and may not have the same performance as the Teknetics G2.

If it is anything like the G2 clone that I purchased then it will not ground balance very well. I ended up tossing mine in the rubbish bin....Yes it was that bad.

Dont expect anything to work on a cheap POS chinese clone.

Even the cct board in my clone had the Teknetics brand and part number on it. Too bad they did not clone the performance

These detectors are brilliant, easily keeps up with my top end machines

FAQs

How deep is the TX 850 metal detector? ›

TX-850 Professional Metal Detector 2.5m Underground Depth Scanner Finder Gold Detector Treasure Hunter Detecting Pinpointer.

What number is gold on a metal detector? ›

Gold is typically detected at a range of frequencies on a metal detector, depending on the specific model and settings. It is commonly detected in the range of 18 kHz to 71 kHz, although some detectors can go higher or lower.

What the deepest a gold detector can detect? ›

Gold detectors are not a new technology, but many people have been using metal detectors to detect gold for ages. Over-the-years the metal detectors have become more advanced and provide you with the opportunity to find gold and many other metals. The world's best gold detectors can sense gold as deep as 40m-60m.

How far away can a metal detector detect? ›

Most metal detectors can detect coins at an average maximum depth of 10 to 16 inches. Metal detectors transmit radio frequency signals from the search coil to locate the targets from the ground's surface to a depth of over 20 feet for large deep treasures.

What kind of metal detector finds gold? ›

A VLF, or “Very Low Frequency,” metal detector is (despite the name and what we know about frequencies from above) quite suitable for metal detecting for gold, though some will prefer PI, or “Pulse Induction,” metal detectors for gold.

Can you find gold or silver with a metal detector? ›

Metal detectors work by generating an electromagnetic field, which induces eddy currents in nearby conductive materials like metals. Gold and silver are both highly conductive metals, so they will generate a strong response in the metal detector, allowing it to detect their presence.

What is the most common thing found with a metal detector? ›

Old coins are some of the most common things people find while metal detecting. Lost coins are everywhere, making them easy targets if you're just starting out.

Can metal detectors detect diamonds? ›

Question: Can metal detectors find diamonds? Answer: This leads to an important point: Metal Detectors will not detect non metal items such as gemstones, diamonds and pearls. What a metal detector can do is lead you to indicator minerals, which are used by prospectors.

What frequency detects gold? ›

15 kHz - A good general treasure detecting mode. 20 kHz - Ideal for general treasure detecting and gold prospecting. 40 kHz - Optimum sensitivity to very small gold nuggets.

What is the metal code for gold? ›

Gold is element 79 and its symbol is Au.

What metal detector has the best depth? ›

Depth: The Gemini 3 has been expertly created to find deep objects; depending on ground mineralization and object size, targets may be detected 10 to 20 ft. Perfect for Cache Hunting and Relic Hunting. Small things can be found about 3 feet down, medium-sized things at 10 feet, and big things at 20 feet.

How deep can a metal detector go underwater? ›

Minelab Underwater Metal Detectors

The multi-frequency Excalibur II is their specialized detector for scuba divers, being waterproof to 66m/200ft.

How deep does a white TM 808 metal detector go? ›

This metal detector can be used almost anywhere regardless of outside interference or ground mineralization - and find treasures buried anywhere from 4ft. to 20ft. deep! Whether you're hunting for a cache of coins or you need the precise location of an underground pipe, the TM 808 does it all.

What determines how deep a metal detector can detect? ›

The simple answer is "as deep as the diameter of the coil". So detectors with larger coils will detect deeper. Large targets can be detected deeper than small targets.
