Right outside the sprawling city of Columbus, is a special town called Dublin. No, not Dublin, Ireland: Dublin, Ohio. Even though you are not in Ireland, you will still experience some Irish flair on your visit. From fairy doors to festivals, there is an Irish presence throughout. Dublin Link Bridge

When you visit the Dublin Link Bridge you are experiencing a one-of-a-kind! The bridge is the “single-tower S-shaped suspension bridge in the world.” It allows you to walk or bike over the Scioto River.

A few fun facts about the bridge: it is 169 feet high, 760 feet long, has 43 cables and it is 14 feet wide. It connects downtown Dublin to Bridge Park. The unique design of the bridge is breathtaking, so be sure to bring your camera for some photos.

Riverside Crossing Park

At Riverside Crossing Park you can experience nature on both sides of the Scioto River. The park connects historic Dublin via the Dublin Link Bridge to Bridge Park. On one side of the park you can enjoy built-in amphitheater-style seating in front of a beautiful water feature, a gas fireplace and a lit gathering space. You have access to the breathtaking Indian Run Falls, as well as river access and overlooks. The green provides flexible lawn space for events, festivals and much more.

The park spanning between the east and west side of the river allows for more than 36 acres of space! There is also a play area with artificial turf for little ones. The pedestrian tunnel connects the north end of the park to Riverside Drive at John Shields Parkway.

Field of Corn

Have you ever visited a field of corn? How about a field of a field of giant, concrete corn? The iconic Field of Corn is an art installation in Dublin that consists of 109 6-foot ears of concrete corn standing in a field of grass. On one side of the installation are two rows of Osage Orange trees. One row was there before the artwork was built, and the second row was planted specifically for the installation.

The artist is Malcolm Cochran, a professor of sculpture at the Ohio State University. It is a dedication to the community’s farming legacy. Do not forget to bring your camera along to snap photos in this remarkable spot.

Dublin Irish Festival

Are you ready to experience the largest three-day Irish festival on the planet? Every year, the first weekend of August, you can join in the fun at the Dublin Irish Festival. It is a cultural and music festival that has been celebrated for more than 36 years.

The festival assures you that, “Irish attitude is all you need to celebrate.” Over the course of three days you have the chance to experience more than 535 performers on seven stages. There is literally something for everyone. From performances to sports to food and drink, you will find plenty of Irish activities.

Hayden Run Falls

Take a step outside of the hustle and bustle of town to take in the beautiful Hayden Run Falls. You can take in the 30-foot waterfall in a two acre park. It is easy to access, which is great for all ages. The falls are just right outside of town, which makes it a perfect little getaway.

It is recommended to wait until there has been a rain or it is springtime before you go. The waterfall can shrink down at times. Take a look at the website for more details.

Indian Run Falls

Just a few minutes from historic downtown Dublin, you can experience an outdoor oasis at Indian Run Falls. Known for its breathtaking falls, the park also offers a viewing deck, picnic shelters and hiking opportunities. You can take in the main falls or hike up to the upper falls for additional views.

A visit to the park is free and there is plenty of parking! You can walk right up to the water side. We recommend packing a snack, as the picnic tables are not too far from the water. You can stay awhile and enjoy the natural wonder while you eat.

Chief Leatherlips Monument at Scioto Park

Chief Leatherlips Monument at Scioto Park is a 12-foot monument of Chief Leatherlips. The statue is of his face looking out over what was once Wyandot land. The limestone structure was created in 1990.

A visit to Chief Leatherlips Monument at Scioto Park is free. You can also access the top of the sculpture by a walkway, which allows you a great view of the Scioto River. Make sure you bring along your camera to snap some photos of this unique piece of art.

Glacier Ridge Metro Park

Glacier Ridge Metro Park, a 1,032-acre park, once covered by mainly farmland is now accessible to visitors to walk and explore. There is a boardwalk across the Honda Wetlands Area. There is also a 25-foot observation tower that offers stunning views of the park.

The park has several trails with easy difficulty for hiking. Three of the trails are paved, which are great for strollers. There is also a trail designed for horseback riding and cross country skiing. A non-reservable shelter is on-site, which is ideal for picnics. You can even try out the 18-hole disc golf course for free or the 3-acre obstacle course.

Ballantrae Park

Come cool off with the bunnies at Ballantrae Park! Ballantrae Park, often referred to as “Bunny Park,” is known for its large sprayground underneath a statue of three bunnies or “giant dancing hares.” The spray feature generally runs May through September (weather permitting).

Access to the community splash pad is free. You will want to pack towels and a bathing suit if you plan on playing in the water! Be sure to check the website for details before visiting.

Riverboxes

Thanks to the Dublin Arts Council, you can explore Dublin parks around the banks of the Scioto River and its tributaries on a true scavenger hunt! A mix of geocaching and GPS skills lead you on a pursuit to each Riverbox. Each box contains a special artist-made stamp and journal, as well as historical and environmental information.

We encourage you to bring your own journal and an ink stamp along with you. Then you can mark the discovered stamp in your own journal. Once you’ve completed the entire Riverboxes challenge, you can bring your stamped journal to the Dublin Arts Council for your very own geopin.

Be sure to check the website for details on how to get started on your adventure. Once you complete a challenge, be sure to return all of the contents back into the riverbox for the next explorer. Also, be aware you are walking through parks and by the riverside, so dress accordingly.

Irish Fairy Door Trail

If you’re searching for a bit of magic, the Irish Fairy Door Trail is perfect for you! You will explore Historic Dublin and Bridge Park as you visit 10 local businesses and find the fairy at each location. At each stop, be sure to fill your passport with the name of each fairy. Then bring your completed passport to the Dublin Visitor & Information Center to receive a free t-shirt.

The tour is open year round and it is updated annually! Be sure to visit the website before your whimsical trip so you can download the Irish Fairy Door Trail Guide. Once you’ve completed this year’s trail, you can come back next year for an entirely new experience. It is recommended that you start your journey at the Dublin Information Center.

Fly Ohio Ballooning

Soar above Dublin, Ohio in a classic hot air balloon with Fly Ohio Ballooning. You’ll get a new perspective of the area as you glide above the town. They offer both sunrise and pre-sunset flights.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

While you’re visiting Dublin, you are close to one of the best zoos in the country: the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. The zoo is well known for Jack Hanna’s promotion of the zoo during his time as director emeritus. Boasting more than “10,000 animals and 600 species,” there is literally something for every visitor.

At the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium you can experience food, rides and a variety of VIP, behind-the-scenes experiences with the animals. They have a very knowledgeable staff, so be sure to ask any questions! The zoo has eight regions of the world to visit, and an entire aquarium! The zoo also owns Safari Golf Club and the water park, Zoombezi Bay.
